About the Program
The MA Social Work is a professional two-year Master's degree designed for graduates who wish to qualify as social workers. The programme combines academic study with professional social work practice and provides experience in both Children and Families and Adult Social Work. Students develop skills in assessment, safeguarding, legislation, professional decision-making, multi-agency working and evidence-based practice. The course works closely with employers in statutory and independent social care services and prepares successful graduates for professional social work practice.
Subject Requirements
- Minimum UK 2:2 Honours Degree or recognised equivalent
- Previous degree does not have to be specifically in Social Work.
- Relevant experience working with people who have social, health or educational needs is required.
- Experience may be paid or voluntary and can be gained through:
- Government or non-government organisations
- Schools
- Healthcare providers
- Charities
- Faith-based organisations
- Social care organisations
Academic requirements
- 4-Year Bachelor's Degree from a UGC-approved university
- For UK 2:2 equivalency:
- Minimum 55% or CGPA 2.70/4.00
- BUET:
- CGPA 2.30/4.00 for 2:2 equivalency
- North South University / BRAC University:
- CGPA 2.30/4.00 for 2:2 equivalency
- Relevant social care experience is also required.
English Language Requirements
- IELTS Academic: 7.0 overall
- Minimum 6.5 in each component
- Equivalent recognised English language qualification may be accepted.

- Relevant social care / health / education experience required
- MA Social Work Portfolio of Evidence required
- Reference verifying relevant experience required
- Panel Interview required if shortlisted
- Applicant must demonstrate understanding of the role of a social worker
- Applicant should understand current social work issues
- Knowledge of Social Work England Professional Standards expected
- Knowledge of Professional Capabilities Framework expected
- Strong spoken and written English required
- Professional suitability assessment applies
